filled box, some hang in the middle of the page like the most alone words in the world Despite there being so few lines, the words that were there, and how they were set on the page, seemed to convey much than just what they were There were several instances where a combination of things was truly disturbing, so much so that I actually had an emotional reaction to what I was reading all without any gore There was very little in the way of graphic description, yet the poems were nevertheless disturbing It truly does feel like you re in the mind of a killer, where some things are noticed and others not, and overall this sense of being apart, alone, separate, unable to associate with the world, even with words unable to explain or describe or relate. In the end I really enjoyed it and am one should choose such a subject for a piece of poetry It seems at once, at least to me, that a grave and troubling subject such as serial killers would be naturally shunned and a difficult undertaking Regardless, I believe that Laura Sims has achieved something in her poetry unique, experimental, and insightful somewhere I feel the poetry s origins lying confidentially in a psychologist s notebook, but read aloud This work of poetry was an experience, and I believe it should be read as such every page for the reader is a kind of suspense, given that there are only a couple of lines to the page, and that apparently, given the number of sources Sims had, her poetry was a natural condensing of her varied notes What we have then is a complex amalgum of the strange, unsettled, and dissociative mind of the killer, at once removed from the world What gave this poetry its driving distinction were the half senses which explained themselves briefly, vaguely, and with subtle allusion All poetry is met with different feelings, and some say that there should be some explicit intent of the author as to why something was written By some attraction Sims was drawn to writing this piece, and just as in science it is desirable to search out all corners of the universe, Sim s work was a venture into one of the darker avenues of our world s deeply troubled killers flag 1 likeLike see very short , it really is amazing the way Sims uses turning the page like breaking the line or stanza in a poem The effect on the reader is greater though My God Is This A Man is a small work of genius pulling from confessions of many twisted, convicted men Sims explores the body and what it means to a woman, and a man The body is a field she writes, and the field, a body flag Like see review
